NASHIK: Coaches of the Mumbai-bound Panchavati Express uncoupled after the train crossed Kasara Railway Station at 8.36 am today, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Central Railway, Swapnil Nila said.
The officer stated that all the passengers on the train were safe. “The train had just started from Kasara Railway Station after descending the ghat section and a brief halt. The coupling between the fourth and fifth coach from the engine came out. After the uncoupling, the engine was halted at a safe distance from the following coaches. The train was brought in the reverse direction to couple with the coaches, and then it started its journey forward,” stated the officer.
The train resumed its journey after 40 minutes. The uncoupling is not common, and a thorough inquiry will be launched to get to the roots of the issue before fixing the responsibility, said Nila.
Usha Kolhe, a regular traveler on the train, was in the fifth coach reserved for ladies. “We were seated in our seats when all of a sudden we heard a sound and then saw bright light entering the coach from one end. Some of us then could see several coaches attached to the train moving ahead, leaving behind the others. Our co-passengers got scared, but we calmed them as this had happened in the past too,” said Kolhe.
Kiran Borse, a member of the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee from Bhusawal, who was traveling on the train, said that this was the third such incident after the last one reported in Kalyan. “I will be raising the safety issue with the railway officials,” said Borse.
